Updating your fireplace and surround can completely change the style of a room. The first in our fireplace update series is one of the most dramatic we have completed.
Our clients are most comfortable living in a modern home. So, when they purchased a traditional style home, one of the first steps was to install wide plank, dark hardwood floors on the main and upper levels, paint the handrail and balusters, and install new stairs. Despite these changes, the traditional brown brick fireplace was the first design element visible as soon as you walked into the home.
The SDI design team is currently working on a home gym and outdoor living area for our return clients who live in Broadlands.
It's hard to believe that half of 2020 is already over. Many of us are ready or have started to implement a few changes after the unexpected time at home. No one could have predicted that we would be working from home, managing school from home, preparing and eating meals from home every day since March. It's safe to say that our homes have been put to the test. How did yours fare?
New Year’s Eve feels like it was just yesterday. The SDI team was excited to begin the new year working with many new and returning clients on interior design and custom remodeling projects. January and February went by quickly and then suddenly in mid-March we were all facing the coronavirus pandemic.
Three years ago we had the pleasure of working with a family who were building a custom home in Falls Church. They contacted SDI for assistance selecting all of their finish selections for the entire home. For the kitchen and bathrooms, this included tile design, cabinet colors and lighting. Paint and lighting selections were made throughout the rest of their home. Other services we provided included creating floor layouts for the family room. This was critical so that the location of floor outlets could be determined. SDI attended selection meetings, contractor meetings, and construction walk-throughs to ensure that everything came together as planned.
Holiday vacation anxiety can be just as high for traveling guests as it is for the host. While great food, drinks and company are why we all visit in the first place, do not underestimate the power of a great night of sleep. Having a place to go for a break from noise, too many people, or just to re-energize for the next day. Here are our favorite tips to create a perfect space for your guests.
In competitive housing markets like ours in the DMV, you simply can’t afford to make mistakes when staging your home for sale. It’s a fact that a well-staged home will sell faster and for a higher price, so getting it right is really important. At Signature Design Interiors, our staging team has over 16 years of decorating expertise and professional staging accreditations, which results in a staged home with a higher level of design aesthetic. Presenting open and airy furniture arrangements that are well accessorized is a must, but we go steps beyond that by injecting great design principles into each property that results in a “wow effect” that buyers are looking for when choosing a home.

Part of what makes our work enjoyable and rewarding is the ability to make our client’s visions come to life. Recently, we had the opportunity to work with clients who wanted to update their contemporary waterfront home in Reston. They had a wish list of projects they needed assistance with and enlisted us to make those wishes come true. The projects included renovating a lower level, painting, new flooring, updates to a guest kitchen area, and new furniture. All the work needed to keep with the contemporary nature of the home and be completed on a tight time schedule before their son’s upcoming wedding.
