Family Room with Crafting Space

This family, like most, still enjoy television in the family room so they needed comfortable seating where everyone has a good view and the ability to stretch and lounge. It was also important to create a space within this room for the children.

We moved the TV from the built-in shelving area to an adjacent wall so that it could be seen from the sectional, as well as, the new crafting area. This suggestion enabled better television viewing and inclusion from every part of the family room. It also created a focal point above the fireplace, which is artwork drawn by Manoj Wangu, the homeowner’s father. An oversized, large patterned rug in gray, green, beige and coral set the color palette for the new family room.

We replaced their existing, oversized sectional with a more streamlined, L-shaped version in a beige, performance fabric and added a large, tufted leather ottoman so that everyone could stretch out and get cozy with a blanket or two. An accent chair in a patterned rust fabric offers additional seating.

To maximize the use of the room, we created a bonus area behind the sectional, perfect for crafts and LEGOs by procuring a narrow, drop-down table and two chairs. We also recommended built-in bench seats under the windows and topped them with custom-made cushions, providing an additional spot for lounging or sitting. New custom window treatments with a vibrant pattern of red, rust, green, and ivory created interest against the neutral walls.
